ABOUT YAK Service Vehicle

The Yak protected multipurpose vehicle is a consequent advancement of the DURO 3 already used by the German Bundeswehr. The DURO 3, manufactured by Swiss company MOWAG, is a highly mobile armoured multi-purpose wheeled vehicle which fulfils the increased demand of the armed forces for protected transport capacity in an optimum way. The vehicle is used by the German Army as a troop transporter, military police vehicle and ambulance under the name of Rheinmetall YAK. The YAK has a high degree of passenger protection which has previously never been achieved in its class. The vehicle provides its occupants with protection from ballistic threat and also has integrated protection from mines.  During development of the Yak, a lot of lessons were learned by German troops during ISAF operations in Afghanistan, which immediately made it into its technical and logistical advancement. Although the Yak is one of the lesser known vehicles in Bundeswehr service, a wide range of variants have been introduced like Mobile Physician’s Group Vehicle, Military Police Operations, Military Police Water Gun etc.

Its light overall weight allows it to be transported in the German Army’s C-130 HERCULES and C-160 TRANSALL transport aircraft.
